Building on an earlier workshop “Vivere Venezia” which explored ways of making navigating the city easier, Talking Venice was an in-depth study of a mobile-phone platform for guides to Venice. I imagined that the platform could be used for a series of guides of very different topics and character: films set in Venice, a food guide, artisan handcrafts, mysteries and legends of the city, for instance.
For the project, I designed and prototyped one such guide, making a prototype in Flash Lite to show the detailed interface of a particular itinerary. I also made a scenario video which you can see below.
After trying a variety of alternative interface treatments, I made a careful study of the interface, paying considerable attention to the clarity and consistency of the navigation system and the quality of the graphics.
