Davide Cocchi

Born 29.08.83 in Terracina, near Rome.

EDUCATION
• Scientific High School.
• Undergraduate degree in Industrial Design (specialising in Multimedia and Graphic Design) at Sapienza University of Rome.
• Graduate degree in Visual and Multimedia Communication, specialising in Interaction Design, at IUAV University of Venice.

EXPERIENCE
• Graduate thesis: TRACE (supervisors: Philip Tabor and Gillian Crampton Smith). The design of a software and interface for the iPhone that allows people to: create routes by geotagging each stage or place; share routes with other people; and modify and augment routes created by others, characterizing and making them unique. It is based on GPS and LBS technology, and uses Collaborative Filtering’s algorithms and instruments to create a user-generated content environment. The thesis storyboard shows TRACE applied to the Castelli Romani national park near Rome.

• On August 2008, for the Media Mediterranea Festival in Pula (Croatia), I designed and constructed, with Randomclapping, an interactive installation, Audio Visual Connections. People walking over a carpet provoked different patterns on it depending on the force and position of each footfall.

• On July 2008 I took part in a workshop by Casey Reas in the Fondazione Claudio Buziol, Venice.

• In winter 2007 I did a three-month internship at H-umus, part of H-Farm, Treviso (the high-tech incubator company), designing graphic interfaces for a table-top application for salespeople. I also worked on the production of Teach Me, IUAV’s festival of communication and graphic design, managing the site and the blog.

• I am a contributor and developer of Random Clapping, the IUAV Interaction Design student website.

• I am interested in researching and analysing social problems and people’s psychological aspects. My design strengths are in project implementation and organisation and in UI design. I enjoy the physical construction and coding side of prototyping.

PORTFOLIO
Here
is an extended CV and some of my projects:

Audio Visual Connections
Trace: Interface for iPhone app. This allows people to record and share their routes and experiences with notes, tips, photo, video and audio recordings. People can contribute individually to augmenting or modifying existing routes, characterizing and making them unique. The software and system is applied here to the Parco Naturale dei Castelli Romani, near Rome. Audio-Visual Connections: Interactive installation made at Media Mediterranea. It consist in to interact with a sensible carpet (through jumping or simply walking over), on which will be projected different shape depending on the intensity of pressure and on which point of the carpet you press.Done with Laura Bordin, Benito Condemi de Felice and Pamela Moscarda.
Flyer Cafe
H-umus: Development of a graphic structure of a multimedia sample book and a interactive demostration table (with e-commerce functions). Flyer Cafe: is an interactive bar where people can read public flyers as everyone usually can do on the walls in the street. Done with Luca de Rosso.
