This section are presents the elements of technology designed for the real installation in San Francesco della Vigna; this technology is related to a hypotetical 1:1 scale Auditum. It was impossible to build it in the real dimensions and to place it in the real location, so we built a prototype to do all the experiments, understand what was the feeling of this experience, and find and correct the project’s errors .
Here the link to the prototype’s page
1. Module light, placed on the ceiling cavity, it’s formed by nine LED strips.
2. Microphone and speaker, in the colonnade are five speakers that diffuse the procession’s sound simulating the movement from one end of the colonnade to the other. The directional microphones are also five, to detect the quantity of noise in the colonnade.
3. Incense vaporizer, on the ceiling in the middle of the passage, it spreads on incense smell into the colonnade.
4. Final phrase with thermochromatic ink and electrical resistance, the resistance heats a metal plate behind the film where is printed with thermochromatic ink the Latin phrase.
5. Photoelectric sensors through beam switch, there is a couple of switches in each passege between two columns, which detect where the user is passing.
1. The user passes through two columns
2. The photoelectric sensors detect him
3. The sensors send the input to Arduino
4.1 Arduino sends the output to the module lights that are turned on
4.2 Arduino sends the output to Processing that makes the music start
5. Processing controls the sound card
6.1 The sound card controls the speakers to “move” the sound
6.1 The microphone detect the noise’s volume determining the sound’s volume changes
7. Arduino turns on the resistance that makes visible the final phrase
